Hi! My name is Kate and I’m a Backend Developer. In this blog, I will tell you how to pursue a career as a software developer and how to become good at this. I write about the choice of the first programming language and how to learn it. I share my experience and tips for interviews. I post links to online tutorials, cool repositories, and articles about web development.

I decided to become a software developer when I was 14. I got my inspiration after reading an interview with some cool software developer girl in a magazine, but also I always loved math, it was my favorite subject at school. So I got myself into University where I spent the next 5 years learning lots of math and CS basics. Unfortunately, since then I have almost never used it :)

I graduated 11 years ago and spent this time working as a developer in many places. The interesting one was Amsterdam Internet Exchange. I was a network developer and learned how the Internet works.

I spent a year developing my own mobile app (kinda startup), it was exciting and insightful at the same time, I learned a lot of different skills during that time. The app is still in the stores, you can check it if you want ChildrenGo

My passion is a backend. I love writing abstract algorithms, optimizing code performance, and dealing with data. It feels like a sweet accomplishment when I figure out a way to handle a complex use case elegantly. How about you? What draws you to a particular section of the stack?
